About Consultations
Section 133 of the Health Professions Act (HPA) requires the College to conduct consultations any time changes are made to the profession’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
In accordance with College bylaws, the new or amended documents will be posted on the College's website for review and comment for a minimum of 14 days. After considering the feedback from registrants and others, the College reviews the drafts for clarity, scope, and completeness. Then, the drafts are shared with the Government of Alberta for review and comment. When the required components of the consultation are complete, the final versions are approved by the College’s Council, which is made up of members of the public and registrants.
Once approved by Council, the new Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics go into effect and registrants are required to adhere to them.
