Beginning in late June, the College will be asking registered dental hygienists, members of the public, and other health professions to provide feedback on drafts of the proposed Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
The proposed Standards of Practice will be presented in a new format as stand-alone standards on topics such as:
- Advertising
- Communication
- Conflict of Interest
- Informed Consent
- Quality Improvement
The College will be releasing the draft Standards in sets of about five to seven at a time with feedback forms for each individual Standard. Each round of consultation will be open for approximately two weeks and will close before the next set is available.
After reviewing consultation feedback, College staff will review the drafts for clarity, scope, and completeness. Then, the drafts will be shared with the Government of Alberta. The final versions will be approved by Council, which is made up of members of the public and registrants.
Once approved by Council, the new Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics go into effect. Registered dental hygienists will be expected to understand and adhere to them.
