The Government of Alberta has announced that second vaccine doses are being offered in stages to Albertans born in 2009 or earlier beginning June 1, 2021. Every approved vaccine has met Health Canada's strict standards for safety, quality and effectiveness. Everyone who can get vaccinated is encouraged to do so; vaccines make our immune systems stronger by building antibodies to help prevent and fight off diseases. Find a pharmacy or book online.
In addition to rollout of second doses, June 1 also marked Stage 1 of the easing of some public health restrictions. Stage 1 includes outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people and the re-opening of personal and wellness services by appointment only. See the full details of Stage 1. Stage 2 is expected to begin on June 10, pending 60% of Albertans 12+ (born in 2009 or earlier) have received at least one dose, and hospitalizations are below 500 and declining.
The current restrictions for regulated health services, including dental hygiene services, remain in place through the Stage 1 and Stage 2 openings. Distancing and masking requirements are still in effect until otherwise lifted by the provincial government. The College of Registered Dental Hygienists will provide an update when any restrictions related to dental hygiene practice are lifted.
