April 4th to 10th is National Dental Hygienists Week™! Edmonton’s High Level Bridge will be lit purple on the evening of Monday, April 4th to recognize the profession. This year, the theme of National Dental Hygiene week is "Oral Health for Total Health," focusing on the impact that oral health has on a person’s overall health.
Dental hygienists are responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating oral health conditions through the provision of therapeutic, educational, and preventive dental hygiene procedures and strategies to promote wellness. It’s the role of the College to regulate the profession, ensuring that dental hygienists deliver safe, ethical, and beneficial oral healthcare to clients. Dental hygiene is one of 32 regulated health professions in Alberta.
The College encourages registered dental hygienists to celebrate the week by educating the public about the role of dental hygienists or by increasing their own professional knowledge. Visit the Practice Resources section of the website to read about the legislation that regulates the profession, see available webinars, and understand best practices for a safe workplace.
